If you beat the Japanese version of Gundam Side Story 0079 - Rise from the Ashes, you get a code at the end of the game. Give the code to Bandai's Japanese website before 9/30/1999. Bandai sends you this free premium disk. You can also purchase it from unscrupulous foreign video game dealers... *** You need a Japanese saved game on your VMU to play this game. The game must have been beaten at least once. *** The premium disk only contains one mission. On a White Base simulator, the White Dingo team battles the three mobile suits of White Base. Amuro Ray narrates the breifing and pilots the RX-78-2 Gundam. The RX-77 Guncannon and RX-75 Guntank are also here. You must defeat at least one enemy suit to see an ending. 1. Mobile Suit Data RX-79SP II - This is the only suit for players in this game. Armor 1000 (1500 with lunar titanium) Medium Shield 400 (causes damage when ramming) Vulcan Cannon (Unlimited ammo) Hand Grenades (8) Beam Saber (close combat) Rifle: Choice of: Machine gun, Rocket Launcher, Beam Spray Gun, Beam Rifle, G-Beam Rifle (download), or Hyper-Hammer (download). RX-75 - GunTank Armor about 700 No Shield Two Gatling Guns (don't know limit) Two 120mm Cannons (don't know limit) The Guntank can rotate its upper body to face you. However, if you try to engage it in close combat, it rolls away. The 120mm cannons can stun you. RX-77 - Guncannon Armor about 700 No Shield Vulcan Cannons (unlimited) Two 120mm Cannons (don't know limit) Beam-Rifle (100 damage per shot) The Guncannon must hunch over to use the 120mm cannons. It can fire them rapidly. It does not dodge much. The Guncannon is about as manuverable as a Zaku. RX-78-2 - Gundam Armor about 1400 Large Shield about 500 Vulcan Cannons (unlimited) Beam Saber x2 (close combat) G-Beam Rifle (200 damage per shot) The Gundam makes the mission very difficult. It is extremely fast. It dodges all beam weapons with a flashy hop. In close combat, it can slice you and jump behind you to slice you again before you can react. The Gundam can also hit you with its beam rifle as you make a right/left/up booster jump! Despite these advantages the Gundam is not invincible. Core Booster - No data. It buzzes the battle zone but does not attack. 2. 'Ultimate Battle' The mission takes place in a flat plain with several small hills. On each end is a base. Here are the approximate locations of where the White Base team will appear: +-------------------+ | Base | | RX-75 | | | | RX-78* | | RX-77 | | RX-78* RX-78*| | Base | +-------------------+ * => the Gundam is very fast and may appear in many places. The goal of this mission is to defeat the opposing mobile suit team. I have two reasonable strategies for defeating all three mobile suits from White Base. One: Take your three mobile suits to the lower-left corner of the map. Then take them up the map. When you get to the upper-left edge of the trench, enter it. Head right and defeat the RX-75. The G-Beam Rifle or regular Beam Rifle is the best for this. While you defeat the RX-75, have Fang2 and Fang3 go to the center of the field. Have Fang2 and Fang3 hold the RX-78-2 as long as they can. After the RX-75 is beaten, find and defeat the RX-77. Finally you may persue the Gundam. You can attack the Gundam using the vulcan cannons (it won't try to dodge). You can also do a ram, slice and run. Ram the Gundam with your shield. Then get in one slice. Now do a booster jump to escape. Repeat once the Gundam is ready to pull out it's beam rifle. This strategy requires much skill. Two: Arm your self with a machine gun. Give Fang2 and Fang3 Beam Rifles. Next, forget the tactics you used in the past nine missions. Hide your team behind the short hills in the bottom of the inner trench. Wait until the RX-78-2 and RX-77 get close. Have Fang2 and Fang3 defeat the RX-77. Lock onto the RX-78-2. It doesn't dodge your puny machine gun shells. Keep firing constantly. Stay behind the hill. It provides protection against the G-Beam Rifle. The Gundam also paces back and forth as it decides how to cross the hill. The Gundam eventually crosses to your side of the hill. Walk left, right or towards the Gundam as you fire (with the Tem-Ray device equipped). The Gundam's G-Beam Rfile just misses you. Avoid close combat with the Gundam at all costs. After two or three minutes of constant fire, the Gundam finally falls. Have Fang2 and Fang3 (or whoever is left) seek and destroy the RX-77 and RX-75. Assist them by staying farther away than they are (so you don't get shot) and unloading shells into the target. This strategy is very counter-intuitive, but it usually works. The mission ends when you are beaten, or all three suits from White Base are defeated. If you are beaten and no suits have been destroyed, the you get the continue screen. If you are beaten but at least one suit was destroyed, the remaining suits parade across the screen. The scenes differ, as they depend on how many suits you have destroyed. If you beat all three suits from White Base, you see your suit stand alone as Amuro praises you. Then the credits appear. Here you see the anime versions of the White Dingo members and CG-scenes. 3. Other Goodies Internet option - Use this web browser to go to Bandai's Gundam video game web site. You may upload a saved game, or download more options. These downloadable options are: Hyper-Hammer, Lunar Titanum, Hi-Power Generator, Photo 4, G-Beam Rifle, Photo 5, Tem-Ray device, and Hello Panel Please don't use the hello panel. Hello (Haro the ball) just blocks your short range radar screen. Gallery - Press left or right to scroll through an image gallery. Options - A sound track test has been added to the options menu. Only one sound track is new. Extra Option - View the best score and time or pick some of the dowloadable options. Score is based on who you have shot down: RX-78-2 Gundam : 10,000+ points RX-75 GunTank : 3,000+ points RX-77 Guncannon : 4,000+ points More points are gven for time and technique.
