Every so often on this site, you'll
see a quote preceded by one of two symbols. It will be either a
* or a ~. The only quotes with
these designations are ones for which I've found complete citations. Doing this is
primarily for my benefit, so that I know at a glance how certain I am of the
citation. But, for anyone interested in knowing where the quote appeared, it would
be beneficial to know what they mean.
* This
symbol means that I am 100% sure of the citation. Either I found it myself in a
book, magazine, movie, or very rarely, in a conversation I've had. The wording of
the quote is accurate, as is the citation information.
~ I am
also 100% sure of the citations for these quotes, but I didn't discover the quote
myself. Most of these came from other quotation websites (which are typically horrible
when it comes to citations), or from alt.quotations. If the quote came with a citation,
I verified it. If it didn't, I went out and found it.
